What is the GoPro Ultra Wide Lens Mod, and which GoPro cameras is it compatible with?
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod is an HB-Series add-on lens designed to expand the HERO13 Black’s field of view and improve HyperSmooth stabilization, according to GoPro Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. It’s made exclusively for HERO13 Black; the available compatibility claims don’t support its use with other cameras Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens.
That makes the Ultra Wide Lens Mod a specific accessory for a specific camera, rather than a standalone camera or a universal GoPro lens. If you don’t own a HERO13 Black, the supplied claims don’t establish that this lens mod will work with your camera Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens.
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod is therefore most relevant when you already have the supported camera and want the stated wider framing and stabilization features. The claims don’t provide evidence of compatibility with other models, so don’t assume that a different GoPro can recognize or use it.

How wide is the field of view, and which video modes does the Ultra Wide Lens Mod support?
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod has a manufacturer-stated 177° field of view, described as 36% wider and 48% taller than footage captured with the standard lens Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. Those figures describe the listed framing advantage; they aren’t measurements from hands-on testing.
GoPro says stabilization is supported in all video modes up to 4K60 Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. The claim doesn’t provide a complete resolution-and-frame-rate table, so other specific combinations aren’t established here.
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod captures in a 1:1 aspect ratio, which can be cropped in post-production to 16:9 widescreen or 9:16 vertical footage Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. That gives you the stated option to choose a final orientation after recording. Vertical Capture is also described as allowing ultra-wide vertical shots without rotating the camera or changing its mounting setup GoPro Ultra Wide Lens Mod.
For buyers, the Ultra Wide Lens Mod’s published specifications emphasize a wide view, reframing flexibility and stabilization up to the stated ceiling. They don’t establish how the image looks in every shooting condition.
How does the Ultra Wide Lens Mod compare with Wide and SuperView?
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod is stated to be 36% wider than HERO13 Black footage recorded at 16:9 with the Wide digital lens Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. In a separate comparison, GoPro says it is 48% taller than HERO13 Black footage recorded at 9:16 with the Wide digital lens Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. These are manufacturer comparisons, not independent measurements.
The supplied figures compare the mod with Wide in those specified formats. They don’t quantify a direct comparison with SuperView, so the evidence here doesn’t support declaring either option categorically better. Your choice depends on the framing you want, but the available claims don’t provide enough matched figures to rank SuperView against the mod.
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod also enables Horizon Lock for all digital lenses, including during a full 360° camera rotation, according to the manufacturer source GoPro Ultra Wide Lens Mod. That claim adds a stabilization-related feature to the comparison; it doesn’t supply comparative image-quality results.
In short, the Ultra Wide Lens Mod has published width and height comparisons against Wide, while a direct SuperView comparison remains unavailable.
How much does the Ultra Wide Lens Mod cost, and what comes in the package?
The Amazon listing gives the Ultra Wide Lens Mod a price of $69.99 and a list price of $119.99 GoPro Ultra Wide Lens Mod (HERO13 Black)…. Those figures apply to the lens-mod listing. That separately listed camera was priced at $479.99, and its package is described as including a standard lens in addition to a pre-installed Ultra Wide Lens Mod GoPro Adds Ultra Wide Lens Mod to HERO13 Black…. Those camera and bundle details don’t change what the lens-mod listing says it contains.

How do you attach the lens mod and enable its ultra-wide video modes?
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod attaches to HERO13 Black without tools, according to the product instructions Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. The camera is described as automatically recognizing the attached lens and switching into Ultra Wide Lens mode Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens.
That stated process is straightforward: attach the lens, then the supported camera recognizes it. The available claims don’t provide menu directions, manual settings, or extra steps, so there’s no basis here to prescribe a sequence beyond the automatic recognition described by GoPro.
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod is not described as a universal accessory that requires a separate camera setup. Its compatibility claim is limited to HERO13 Black, and the automatic mode-switching statement applies to that camera Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. If you’re looking for detailed troubleshooting instructions or a way to enable the mode on another camera, that information isn’t available in the supplied claims.
In practical terms, the documented setup is tool-free attachment followed by camera recognition. Anything beyond that—including specific menus or manual configuration—would be guesswork.
What image-quality trade-offs or recording limits should buyers know about?
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod’s stated framing benefit is a 177° field of view; that is a published specification, not a hands-on result Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. Stabilization is supported across video modes up to 4K60, which is the documented ceiling in the available claims Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens.
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod records in a 1:1 aspect ratio that can later be cropped to 16:9 widescreen or 9:16 vertical footage Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. That gives you the stated flexibility to choose between those two output shapes in post-production, but it doesn’t establish how much image detail remains after a particular crop.
Important image-quality details are unavailable: the claims don’t provide measured sharpness, distortion, low-light performance, or file-size impact. They also don’t include a complete resolution-and-frame-rate table. Those omissions matter if you need to predict results for a particular scene or workflow.
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod’s published numbers describe field of view, stabilization support and capture ratio. They don’t prove how the lens performs in conditions that aren’t covered by those specifications.
Can the Ultra Wide Lens Mod be used underwater, and what precautions are needed?
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod is described as scratch-resistant and waterproof when mounted, but GoPro says it isn’t intended for underwater use Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. Water resistance when mounted should not be read as approval for underwater filming.
The Ultra Wide Lens Mod also has a hydrophobic coating that is stated to repel water Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. That coating claim doesn’t override the explicit warning against underwater use, and the supplied information doesn’t give an approved depth or identify an underwater accessory for this lens mod.
If underwater recording is part of your plan, the available claims don’t establish what equipment or precautions would make that use appropriate. No accessory recommendation or depth limit can be supported from the supplied evidence.
The practical distinction is important: the stated waterproof condition applies when the lens mod is mounted, while the same product information says it isn’t intended for underwater use Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens. The Ultra Wide Lens Mod’s scratch resistance and water-repelling coating are listed features, not evidence that underwater filming is supported Ultra Wide Lens Mod – Ultra Stabilized POV Lens.
