What is the Garmin Edge 820, and what type of cycling is it designed for?

The Garmin Edge 820 is a cycling GPS computer whose listing positions it for performance and racing. The listing names training and ride metrics including VO2, recovery advisor, Strava Live Segments, performance condition, stress score, cycling dynamics, FTP and watts/kg tracking. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for…

That feature list gives you a sense of the intended audience: riders interested in training data and performance-focused tools. It does not show how those features work on a ride, or whether they suit your training needs. The Garmin Edge 820 listing provides no buyer-review claims or first-hand testing notes, so its practical strengths and drawbacks cannot be confirmed from the available information.

The Garmin Edge 820 is therefore best assessed here by its listed specifications, not by reported ride experience. The product information names the features, but offers no evidence about their accuracy, ease of use, or usefulness in competition. Those points remain unknown.

What can the Garmin Edge 820’s screen, battery, weight and navigation do?

The Garmin Edge 820 is listed with a 2.3-inch capacitive touchscreen, an LCD display and a resolution of 200 x 265. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… The product information gives no further evidence about screen visibility or responsiveness in use.

Battery life is listed as up to 15 hours, and battery-save mode is claimed to extend battery life by up to 50%. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… These are listing claims, not measured results, so actual endurance is not established here. The listed weight is 1.6 ounces. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for…

The Garmin Edge 820 listing names road maps and GPS, but gives no map-coverage details and no account of turn-by-turn behavior or navigation testing. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… That leaves important practical questions unanswered: you can’t tell from these details which roads are covered or how the device handles a route. The Garmin Edge 820’s listed specifications describe the screen and headline battery figure; they don’t confirm performance on the road.

Does the Garmin Edge 820 support GPS, sensors and smartphone connections?

The Garmin Edge 820 listing identifies GPS as its supported satellite navigation system; it does not specify GLONASS support. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… Bluetooth, ANT+ and Wi-Fi are listed as connectivity options. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… Those are the available connection details, but the product information doesn’t explain how smartphone pairing works or name specific cycling apps.

The Garmin Edge 820 is listed as compatible with Varia rearview radar, Varia smart bike lights, Varia Vision, Vector 2 and Vector 2S. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… The available claims don’t establish broader heart-rate monitor or power-meter support details, so those should not be assumed from this list.

In other words, the listed connections and named devices offer some useful clues, but they don’t answer every compatibility question. The Garmin Edge 820 may be of interest if one of the named devices matters to you; whether a particular phone, sensor or app works with it is unavailable in the information provided. GPS is specified; GLONASS is not.

How does the Garmin Edge 820 compare with the Edge 520 and Edge 1000?

The available product information describes the Garmin Edge 820 only. It provides no specifications or prices for the Edge 520 or Edge 1000, so a supported side-by-side comparison isn’t possible.

The Garmin Edge 820 has a listed 2.3-inch touchscreen, GPS, road maps and performance features, but none of those details establishes whether it has a larger screen, more features or better performance than either alternative. A comparison would need matching product information for all three models. Without that, ranking them would be guesswork.

If you’re choosing among these devices, treat the Garmin Edge 820 listing as information about this model alone, not evidence of its relative value. The supplied claims don’t establish which model is preferable for racing, training, navigation or price. They also don’t give a basis for comparing battery life or connectivity across the three. Those comparisons remain unavailable.

How much does the Garmin Edge 820 cost new, and what is its used price?

The Garmin Edge 820 is listed at $299.99 on Amazon. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… That is the listed price in the available product information; it does not establish the original new price or a typical used price.

The Garmin Edge 820 listing also says only one item is left in stock. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… That is an availability note, not evidence of value or a reason to buy. It doesn’t tell you whether the listed price is typical, whether the item is new in any particular condition, or what sellers generally ask for used units.

If you’re trying to establish a fair used price, the information here can’t answer that question. Nor does it provide a historical price for when the product was first sold new. The only supported figure is the current listing price of $299.99; the original new price and typical used price are unavailable. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for…

How do you set up the Garmin Edge 820, load maps and follow a route?

The Garmin Edge 820 listing says road maps are supported, but it doesn’t explain how to install maps or create, transfer or follow a route. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… Giving setup instructions would mean filling in details the available product information doesn’t provide.

The Garmin Edge 820 package is listed as including the device, a USB cable, an extended out-front mount, manuals, a standard mount and a tether. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… That tells you what the listing says is in the box, not how to use those items or configure the computer.

For a setup decision, the distinction matters: the product information confirms road-map support but offers no route-planning or map-loading procedure. It also doesn’t describe the initial setup process. You’ll need instructions beyond this listing to confirm the steps for loading maps and navigating a route. No verified procedure is available here, so don’t treat an inferred sequence as confirmed guidance.

What problems affect the Edge 820’s touchscreen, battery, GPS or syncing?

The Garmin Edge 820 listing describes a capacitive touchscreen and claims it works with gloves and when wet. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… That claim isn’t independently verified in the available information, which contains no test notes about touchscreen response or use in wet conditions.

The listed battery figure is up to 15 hours, but no measurement or report here establishes how battery life changes with age or use. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… Battery degradation is therefore unknown. Likewise, the available product information provides no buyer-reported problems or troubleshooting steps for GPS reception or syncing.

The Garmin Edge 820 may have questions a buyer would want answered about touch response, battery condition, GPS and connections. But the supplied evidence doesn’t document common faults, their frequency or fixes. It would be misleading to infer that these problems occur—or to suggest a remedy—without reports or instructions. The Garmin Edge 820 can be described by its listed features; its reliability in these areas cannot be confirmed.

Is the Garmin Edge 820 still compatible with Garmin software, sensors and cycling apps?

The Garmin Edge 820 listing marks the supported-software-update date as unknown. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… That leaves current software support unestablished; the available information can’t confirm whether updates are still offered.

The listing says Connect IQ can be used to download custom apps and data fields. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… It also names Varia rearview radar, Varia smart bike lights, Varia Vision, Vector 2 and Vector 2S as compatible devices. Garmin Edge 820, GPS Cycling/Bike Computer for… These are product claims, not confirmation of present-day compatibility.

The Garmin Edge 820 information doesn’t establish current sensor compatibility beyond those named devices, or support for any specific cycling app. It also doesn’t say whether Connect IQ downloads remain available. If ongoing software support or a particular app is central to your decision, you’ll need information that confirms those points. The Garmin Edge 820’s current compatibility status is unknown from the material provided.
