What is the Mongoose Switch BMX Bike, and what wheel size and frame features does it have?

The Mongoose Switch BMX Bike is a kids’ bike with a steel frame, designed for young riders learning to ride, according to the manufacturer Switch 18in – Mongoose. Its 18-inch tires are 1.95 inches wide, and the bike has a 7-inch steel kids’ frame with a rigid steel fork Switch 18in – Mongoose.

The manufacturer describes the frame as low-standover, intended to make getting on and off easier Switch 18in – Mongoose. Removable training wheels are included as a stability feature, and the bike also has freestyle pegs and four-piece handlebars Switch 18in – Mongoose. These are listed features, not evidence of how the bike handles in practice.

There’s a difference in frame wording between sources: Amazon lists an alloy-steel frame, while the manufacturer specifies a steel frame open prime modal Switch 18in – Mongoose. The supplied information doesn’t clarify that terminology difference further.

What rider height or age range is the Mongoose Switch designed for?

The Mongoose Switch is specified for riders 42–52 inches tall, and its seat adjustment is tool-free, according to the manufacturer Switch 18in – Mongoose. That height range gives you a stated fit reference when considering the bike; it doesn’t independently establish whether it will suit a particular child.

The Amazon product name says “Ages 5-8,” while the listing specification and manufacturer guidance focus on rider height Mongoose Switch BMX Bike, 18 Inch Bike for Kids… Switch 18in – Mongoose. Treat the age wording as the listing’s label rather than a separately verified fit range. The supplied evidence doesn’t provide another age-based fit assessment.

The listing also describes the seat as adjustable without tools Mongoose Switch BMX Bike, 18 Inch Bike for Kids…. That supports the listed adjustment feature, but it doesn’t supply a seat-height measurement or explain the full adjustment range. If you’re deciding between sizes, the published height guidance is the clearer specification available here.

How much does a new Mongoose Switch cost, and what is its typical used price?

The Amazon listing shows the Mongoose Switch at $219.99, with a list price of $219.99; that price information is dated 2026-10 Mongoose Switch BMX Bike, 18 Inch Bike for Kids…. It’s a snapshot of the listing, not a guarantee that the price will remain the same.

No typical used price is available in the supplied sources. There’s also no used-market evidence here to support an estimate of depreciation or a resale range. For that reason, the listing price alone can’t tell you what a second-hand Switch is worth or what you might recover later.

The sources name one other bike, the Mongoose Switchback Comp, with a $2,499 MSRP Mongoose Switchback Comp – Mountain Bicycles…. That figure belongs to a different kind of bike and shouldn’t be treated as a like-for-like price comparison with the kids’ Switch.

How does the Mongoose Switch BMX Bike compare with other entry-level BMX bikes in components and specifications?

The Mongoose Switch BMX Bike has a single-speed drivetrain, and Amazon also lists it as a one-speed kids’ BMX bike Switch 18in – Mongoose open prime modal. The supplied comparison bike is the Mongoose Switchback Comp, which is described as a cross-country mountain bike for recreational use—not a direct kids’ BMX equivalent Mongoose Switchback Comp – Mountain Bicycles….

The wheel sizes underline that difference: the Switch has 18-inch tires, while the Switchback Comp has 29-inch wheels Switch 18in – Mongoose Mongoose Switchback Comp – Mountain Bicycles…. The Switchback Comp is specified with an aluminum frame, 12-speed gearing, a SRAM GX rear derailleur and a SRAM NX shifter Mongoose Switchback Comp – Mountain Bicycles…. It also has Shimano Deore hydraulic disc brakes Mongoose Switchback Comp – Mountain Bicycles….

The Switchback Comp’s $2,499 MSRP is a separate model’s listed price, not a like-for-like benchmark for the Switch Mongoose Switchback Comp – Mountain Bicycles…. The comparison is useful for seeing different specifications, but not for judging which bike best fits the same rider or use.

What assembly steps are required before riding a Mongoose Switch, and which adjustments should be checked?

The supplied sources don’t provide the Mongoose Switch’s assembly instructions or a step-by-step assembly list. They also don’t specify which pre-ride adjustment checks are required, so a complete setup procedure can’t be confirmed from this evidence.

The manufacturer lists a tool-free seat adjustment for riders 42–52 inches tall Switch 18in – Mongoose. It also lists removable training wheels Switch 18in – Mongoose. Those are features to account for, not a substitute for assembly directions or a checklist of what to inspect before riding.

Specific assembly requirements, adjustment procedures and pre-ride checks are unavailable in the supplied evidence. If you need those details before deciding, this source set doesn’t answer them. It would be misleading to turn the seat adjustment and training-wheel features into a complete assembly guide.

What brakes does the Mongoose Switch use, and what safety or maintenance checks do they require?

The Mongoose Switch uses a rear coaster brake and a rear-caliper hand brake, according to the manufacturer Switch 18in – Mongoose. The supplied sources don’t specify brake inspection steps, maintenance intervals or adjustment procedures. They therefore don’t support a maintenance schedule or a detailed safety checklist for either brake. Those details remain unknown here.

The Switchback Comp provides a specification contrast, not a direct substitute: it uses Shimano Deore hydraulic disc brakes, with a 180 mm front rotor and a 160 mm rear rotor Mongoose Switchback Comp – Mountain Bicycles…. The Switch’s listed brake types and the Switchback Comp’s disc-brake components describe different setups; the available evidence doesn’t establish a performance comparison.

What warranty applies to the Mongoose Switch, and how does its resale value compare with its original price?

Mongoose describes the Switch as having a limited warranty Switch 18in – Mongoose. The supplied evidence doesn’t state the warranty’s duration or detailed coverage, so those terms can’t be spelled out here.

The Amazon listing price is $219.99, dated 2026-10 Mongoose Switch BMX Bike, 18 Inch Bike for Kids…. No used-price or resale-value data is available in the supplied sources, which means the Switch’s resale value can’t be compared with that listing price.

The Switchback Comp has separately listed warranty figures of five years for the frame and one year for components Mongoose Switchback Comp – Mountain Bicycles…. Those figures belong to the Switchback Comp and don’t establish the Switch’s warranty terms. Keep the distinction clear: the evidence supports a limited-warranty description for the Switch, but not a specific duration or coverage breakdown.
